Introducing Yael Harris Resnick

This is my first blog post, so I’d like to briefly (re)introduce myself.

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Yael. Originally from North Hollywood, CA, I moved to Israel 6 years ago with my husband Benjamin and 4 children. I was an elementary school teacher for 15 years and changed careers to become an artist in Israel.

What’s your art training?

I have none; I am self taught. My mom is an artist so I grew up in a very creative house. I took a few drawing classes as a kid. But I never officially studied art (aside from a year in a graphic design course). My mom always told me,”if you ever want to do art, you’ll do it”.

What are your goals for your art?

I was privileged to grow up in a lovely Jewish community. My biggest struggle with my own Judaism was the monotony and complacency. I was a Jewish educator of children for many years. My art came from the desire to inspire, teach and help elicit a sense of excitement. I also use my art to lend different perspectives- ones that may not be as popular such as focusing on women in the Bible.

What media do you use?

I’m a silk painter, calligrapher, watercolor, acrylic, oil painter. I work on canvas, paper, glass and wood and with gold leaf. I also sew my own challah covers, wall hangings and tallitot. I went back to school here in Israel to learn graphic design and I paint digitally. I often combine many media together in my works.

Tell us a bit about ArtTrivet.

ArtTrivet is my collection of heat-resistant table runners. Our first design was Splitting of the Sea. It was originally created (with Ben, my hubby) out of a desire to make the Passover Seder more inspiring. We tested the waters by doing an Indiegogo campaign and got so much positive feedback. After time, we created more designs for other holidays, Shabbat and more. We are now on thousands of tables worldwide which is so exciting!

I received the Jerusalem trivet from the Z’s, dear friends of yours from Valley Village, while they were visiting Denver this past summer. I told her it was The Best Hostess Gift Ever! Every Shabbos I use it and every Shabbos I get enthusiastic and admiring comments from our guests about how beautiful (and functional!) it is. Every Shabbos I am reminded of how special the Z’s are, which makes your artwork a precious gift both physically and spiritually ! I 100% recommend these art trivets as gifts to family and friends, to connect you to them in ways beyond your imagination. Thank you Yael, and to your mom for encouraging you to discover the artist within you! You rock Hashem’s world!

Your work is so lovely Yael! Did you ever live in Newton, Mass? We made Aliyah from Newton to Zichron Yaakov in 2018 and are very happy here…

How can we purchase something here in Israel? Do you have shekel prices? Hi This site looks like items being sent to North America….
    הצלחה רבה!

Thanks for your reply Yael! It sounds like you’re originally a creative California girl, not the Yael from Newton who was a Goldman !(knew the parents)
In any case, I would be interested in ordering your beautiful Pesach runner for our son and daughter-in-law in Sharon, MA ( where I think the other Yael Resnick once lived!). I’d love one myself some day, but since we made Aliyah our daughter-in-law Sarah has been hosting the family sedarim (without us..) so we want to get one for them first and be represented by a surprise gift for them…
Just wondering, how does one obtain a coupon for purchases on your site? As you know firsthand, when you live in Israel you stop thinking in dollars and more in shekels!

Please let me know about possible coupons and I’ll order the runner for them this week..
Thanks so much and good luck preparing for Pesach..
BTW, Zichron is very artsy so maybe you want to consider selling some of your work here.
אנקדוטה – אמנות שימושית is a favorite gift store here for both tourists and the locals. I’m sure they would love to feature your amazing work!
    כל טוב,
